Letter from Kate Beirne in relation to the provision of additional noise mitigation in the Cranage area.
M6 16-19 SMART MOTORWAY SCHEME – PROVISION OF ENVIRONMENTAL MITIGATION IN CRANAGE AREA
I am writing to let you know that I have been advised of the ministerial decision on this issue.
The work that we undertook to inform this decision involved assessing the benefits and costs of different lengths and heights of noise fencing, very low noise surfacing and a permanent reduction of the speed limit. The review also considered the number of other properties at a similar distance from the motorway both on this scheme and across Highways England’s programme of work.
Unfortunately Andrew Jones, as minister for roads, has not asked us to add any additional noise mitigation to the scope of the smart motorway scheme.
I understand that you will be disappointed by this news. Please be assured that my team and I remain committed to minimise any disruption caused during the works, and would be happy to address any further concerns you may have.
Yours sincerely
Catherine Beirne
